Description
We wildcraft Uva ursi, also known as bearberry, in the jackpine-covered sandhills near our farm. The other common name, kinnikinnick, refers to its use by the eastern Algonquin people as a tobacco extender*.
Uva ursi contains tannins that have astringent effects and it is used as a diuretic. Although Uva ursi is widely used, there are warnings against prolonged use of the leaf tea*.
